Tip Led To Arrest In 2014 Death (Cocoa Beach, FL) -- A tip is credited with helping police make an arrest in an unsolved death investigation in Brevard County. St. Cloud's Marylee Walker was arrested this week for vehicular homicide in the 2014 death of Orlando's Jessica Erausquin in Cocoa Beach.
Police say a man came forward this month to tell them that Walker admitted to him that she made a big mistake that night. The man told investigators Walker told him that Erausquin fell out of her car while Walker was driving her home, and Walker ran her over.
UCF Investigating Misspent Money (Orlando, FL) -- UCF is trying to find out if other school officials may have been involved in misspending millions in state money. The Board of Trustees will meet today with lawyers to discuss an investigation.
CFO Bill Merck resigned last week after the state discovered last month the school misspent 38 million dollars. The money was meant for operational expenses, but it was used to build the new Trevor Colbourn Hall instead.
Parkland Parents File Complaint Over Lack Of Access To Public Records (Parkland, FL) -- Two parents of Parkland school shooting victims are taking legal action to get the answers they say public officials are refusing to give them.
The parents of Meadow Pollack and Carmen Schentrup filed a petition this week to get access to public records related to the shooting. One of the lawyers involved with the filing tells the Sun Sentinel parents have been trying to get access to the records for five months.
Road Rage Shooting In Miami (Miami, FL) -- A search is underway for several men wanted in a road-rage incident in Miami. It started last night as a man was driving around Northwest 33rd Ave and 11th Court.
Police say men on motorcycles and ATVs shot at the driver and followed him to the Moore Park area, where the man was assaulted. The man was treated at the scene for head injuries, and his injuries are not life-threatening.
Astronomers Discover Fictional Star Trek Planet, Vulcan (Undated) -- The home planet of Captain Spock from Star Trek might actually exist. Astronomers have discovered a new exoplanet that orbits 40 Eridani A, which is where the fictional planet, Vulcan, would be. An exoplanet is a planet located outside our sun's solar system.
The newly-discovered one is 16 light years away and twice the size of Earth. University of Florida astronomy professor Jian Ge [[ goo ]] says it's most likely uninhabitable because half of it faces a star, and is likely too hot. It might be possible to live on the other half, though. Ge says he wants the exoplanet to be named Vulcan.
Man Gets Drunk On Bridge (Wheeling, WV) -- A West Virginia man is accused of getting drunk, climbing up a suspension bridge and claiming to be a bridge inspector.
Officials in Wheeling say Gregory Alderson was drunk yesterday morning while he worked his way up the cables and forced the closure of the bridge. Nobody got hurt but police took the 27-year-old into custody to face multiple charges. The bridge was re-opened little while later.
