Victim Pistol-Whipped In Carjacking
(Titusville, FL) -- A search is underway for two men considered armed and dangerous. Titusville Police say the men used a gun to beat a driver yesterday morning on Garden Street before taking the victim's truck. The suspects then allegedly hit a semi-tractor trailer on I-95 and carjacked another driver who stopped to help. Police say the suspects carjacked another driver on I-95 near SR 406.They remain on the loose.
Man Arrested For Shooting At Ex-Girlfriend's House
(Palm Bay, FL) -- A Brevard County man is facing charges for a shooting at his ex-girlfriend's house. Cocoa's Travis Love was arrested last week for a shooting in Palm Bay on Holbrook Road. Police say the woman's current boyfriend shot the 22-year-old Love when he broke into the home and Love fired back. Both men were hit but are expected to survive.
Three Killed In Osceola County Crash
(Kissimmee, FL) -- Three people, including a child, are dead after a crash in Osceola County. FHP says a five-year-old girl and two women were killed in last night's crash near Kissimmee on SR 429. In addition, an 11-year-old boy is in critical condition and two men are in stable condition. All the victims were in a van that overturned after it was rear-ended by a pickup truck, and charges are pending against the pickup truck driver.
Deadly Wrong-Way Crash In Volusia County
(New Smyrna Beach, FL) -- A wrong-way driver is dead after a crash in Volusia County. FHP says a car heading south on SR 415 north crashed, head-on, into a pickup truck. The driver of the car was killed, and the pickup truck driver was hurt but there's no word on their condition.
Boy Hurt In Physical Encounter With School Employee
(Pinellas Park, FL) -- A boy is in the hospital after a physical encounter with a school employee in Pinellas County. Pinellas Park Police say a behavioral interventionist at AMIkids slammed the 12-year-old to the floor last week after the boy allegedly cut ahead in the lunch line. Despite the boy losing consciousness, vomiting and crying, no ambulance was called, and the student went home on the school bus. The boy is now in serious condition with a skull fracture, subdural hematomas and brain bleeding, and police said yesterday they're planning to arrest the employee who hurt him.
Secret Service Conducts Training On School Shootings
(Doral, FL) -- Training underway in Miami-Dade County could make schools safer. The Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center is holding classes on how to prevent school shootings. Trainers advise law enforcement to develop threat assessment teams that can look at a student's personal life and access to weapons. Parents of those killed in the Parkland school shooting spoke at yesterday's training session in Doral, and the father of one victim says superintendents need to attend because change starts at the top.
USF To Study How Voters React To Democratic Candidates In Debate
(Tampa, FL) -- USF is taking a new approach to gauge how voters feel about the presidential candidates. The school announced last week that researchers will use sensors to measure voters' response to each of the candidates in tonight's Democratic debate in Las Vegas. As part of the study, over two dozen participants will watch the debate in a room at the CIS Building while wearing monitors on their fingers. One researcher says the goal is to get an unfiltered reaction to the candidates.
Burglary Suspects Found Victims Through Social Media
(Miami, FL) -- A series of recent arrests has police in Miami-Dade County warning social media users. Ten people were arrested recently for their roles in an alleged jewelry theft ring, and Miami Police said yesterday the suspects found their victims through social media. Police say suspects scrolled through Instagram posts looking for people posting pictures of expensive jewelry and other items. Prosecutors say we need to be smarter about what we post online because we never know who's watching.
TX Students Take Part In Super Flush At New Stadium
(Arlington, TX) -- Students in the Lone Star State are lending a helping hand to their local baseball team. Arlington Independent School District students were called to the new home of the Texas Rangers to take part in a "super flush." Hundreds of students and construction workers flushed all the toilets at Globe Life Field to make sure plumbing handled the demand. Officials say the mega flush was successful. The brand new ballpark will host its first game next month.
Former Professor Says Human Tongues Were For Research
(Gainesville, FL) -- A former University of Florida professor says jars of human tongues found under his old house were research specimens. Ronald Baughman told local media that the six jars of tongues found under his old Gainesville home recently were part of his research into thyroid problems. He worked at the school's college of dentistry from 1971 to 2002 and collected the specimens from Virginia, Illinois and Indiana before working at UF. Baughman says the tongues were put in the crawlspace for preservation and forgotten. Police said their investigation, which started after an inspection of the home's foundation, hasn't turned up anything criminal.
