Isaias To Approach Coast Sunday
(Miami, FL) -- The Central Florida coast should expect to feel the effects of Hurricane Isaias [[ ee-suh-EE-us ]] this weekend. The National Hurricane Center predicted, last night, the storm will approach Brevard and Volusia counties Sunday. Up to five inches of rain are possible. Volusia County Emergency Management Director Jim Judge tells the News-Journal power outages are possible due to strong winds.
More COVID Cases Among Graduation Attendees
(Titusville, FL) -- Those who attended recent graduation ceremonies in Brevard County are being asked to quarantine. The school district announced yesterday that some who attended ceremonies at Palm Bay Magnet High School and Brevard Virtual School tested positive for the coronavirus. The district estimates the two schools combined had more than 12-hundred students, guests and staff members in attendance. Earlier this week, the district announced someone who attended Bayside High School's graduation ceremony also tested positive for the virus.
Man Arrested After Shooting At Cars
(Tampa, FL) -- A police officer and four others are hurt after a shooting spree in Hillsborough County. Tampa Police say shootings took place at seven different locations within about an hour of each other last night. A 24-year-old TPD officer was shot in the arm when he confronted the suspect during a traffic stop. All five victims are expected to survive, and the 31-year-old suspect is in custody.
Security Guard Who Fired At Shoplifter Charged With Attempted Murder
(Hialeah, FL) -- A security guard who fired at a suspected shoplifter in Miami-Dade County is facing charges. Hialeah Police yesterday announced charges against Leonardo Morales were upgraded to attempted second-degree murder for Tuesday's incident outside a supermarket on West 17th Street. Surveillance video released yesterday shows the 50-year-old Morales firing at the getaway car the suspect got into after allegedly stealing 200 dollars' worth of lobster tails. An eight-year-old girl and her six-year-old sister, who were in the car, were shot in their legs, but they're expected to survive.
Florida Man Accused Of Pretending To Be Health Inspector For Free Booze
(Sebastian, FL) -- Florida Police say a man falsely claimed he was a health inspector to get some free alcohol. Twenty-seven-year-old Lance Walters is accused of walking into Earl's Hideaway Lounge in Sebastian and demanding a drink. The owner says when he refused, Walters said he was a health inspector who would shut the bar down if he did not serve him on the house. He also reportedly said his father was the chief of Palm Bay Police. Officers responded when Walters would not leave the lounge. He was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest without violence.
