Brevard County High School Football Team Placed In Quarantine
(Merritt Island, FL) -- The coronavirus is disrupting the football season at a school in Brevard County. Members of the Merritt Island Mustangs were placed in quarantine yesterday after school officials learned of a positive COVID test. The Mustangs will forfeit their next two games against Satellite and Astronaut. The players will learn remotely for two weeks, and they'll resume their season November 6th.
Police Called Over Maskless Voters
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- Early voting is underway in Broward County, and there's apparently already some confusion over the county's mask policy. A poll worker at the Coral Ridge Mall called Fort Lauderdale Police yesterday after four voters were not wearing masks. Police escorted the voters out before county elections officials told police to allow them to vote. The county's supervisor of elections says voters who have a mask will be strongly encouraged to wear it, and those that don't have a mask will be given one at no charge. There is no mask requirement at Brevard polling places.
Judge Allows Miami-Dade To Reinstate Curfew
(Miami, FL) -- A judge's ruling is a victory for Miami-Dade County's government. An appeals court judge yesterday ruled the county can reimpose its overnight curfew as it challenges a lower court ruling. Under that earlier ruling, a judge sided with a strip club and struck down the curfew for violating a state order. County Mayor Carlos Gimenez says the midnight to 6:00 a.m. curfew is needed to keep the coronavirus in check, and the curfew will be reinstated tonight.
Teacher Arrested For Sex Act With Student
(Daytona Beach, FL) -- A former teacher is accused of having sexual contact with an underage student. Daytona Beach Police last week arrested Kristen O'Brien for charges that include committing a sexual act on a child older than 12 but younger than 16. The 31-year-old O'Brien used to teach at United Brethren Christ Academy in Holly Hill, but she quit last month. Police say the boy's mother alerted them to the relationship after she found messages from O'Brien on her son's phone.

A TikTok challenge is encouraging the app's users to steal Trump yard signs, and one woman in Riverside Heights caught a teen girl in the act recently. The homeowner says it's a disgrace that some are seeking to stamp out voices like hers. An Oldsmar woman took to nailing her Trump sign 15 feet up a tree to avoid having it stolen, and she tells ABC Action News it's disappointing that things have gotten to this point.
Seven Face Charges For Wildlife Trafficking In Florida
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida authorities are charging seven suspects in connection with a wildlife trafficking operation. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says they were tipped off last year about people illegally trapping flying squirrels to be sold in the international pet market. Investigators say that as many as 36-hundred squirrels were captured in Central Florida over a three-year-period. The animals were then laundered through a licensed wildlife dealer in Bushnell, who claimed they were bred in captivity. The FWC says the operation was targeting the squirrels for sale in South Korea, where they could bring in as much as one-million dollars.
